Alarm.com Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy explains how Alarm.com Incorporated (collectively "Alarm.com", "we", "us", and "ours") uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit our website and when you log in to your password-protected account through any website, mobile application or other online property owned, operated or controlled by us ("Sites"). It explains what these technologies are and why we use them, as well as your rights to control our use of them.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small data files that are placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. Cookies are widely used by website owners in order to make their websites work, or to work more efficiently, as well as to provide reporting information.

Cookies set by the website owner (in this case, Alarm.com) are called "first party cookies." Cookies set by parties other than the website owner are called "third party cookies." Third party cookies enable third party features or functionality to be provided on or through the website (e.g. like advertising, interactive content and analytics). The parties that set these third party cookies can recognize your computer or mobile device both when it visits the website in question and also when it visits certain other websites.

Why do we use cookies?

We use first party and third party cookies for several reasons. Some cookies are required for technical reasons in order for our Sites to operate, and we refer to these as "essential" or "strictly necessary" cookies. Other cookies also enable us to track and target the interests of our users to enhance the experience on our Sites. Third parties serve cookies through our Sites for advertising, analytics and other purposes. This is described in more detail below.

The specific types of first and third party cookies served through our Sites and the purposes they perform are described below:

Essential Cookies:

These cookies are strictly necessary to provide you with services available through our Sites and to use some of its features, such as access to secure areas.

Functionality and Analytics Cookies:

These cookies are used to enhance the performance and functionality of our Sites, but they are non-essential to your use of the Sites. However, without these cookies, certain functionality may become unavailable to you. These cookies may also collect information that help us understand usage of our Sites in order to measure and improve performance of the Sites.

Google Analytics Yes Yes

Google Analytics collects information such as how often users visit a website, what pages you visit when you do so, and what other websites you used prior to coming to such website. Google Analytics collects only the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit a website, rather than your name or other identifying information. We do not combine the information collected through the use of Google Analytics with your personal information. Although Google Analytics plants a permanent cookie on your web browser to identify you as a unique user the next time you visit a website, the cookie cannot be used by anyone but Google. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to our website is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Use and the Google Privacy Policy. Google utilizes the data collected to track and examine the use of our website, to prepare reports on its activities and share them with other Google services. Google may use the data collected on our Sites to contextualize and personalize the ads of its own advertising network.

To more fully understand how Google may use the data it collects, please review "How Google uses data when you use our partners' sites or apps," (located at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites or any successor URL).

To opt-out install the plug-in: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Advertising/Tracking Cookies:

These cookies are used to make advertising messages more relevant to you. They perform functions like preventing the same ad from continuously reappearing, ensuring that ads are properly displayed for advertisers, and in some cases selecting advertisements that are based on your interests. This table also includes tracking tags, and you can learn more about how they function in the "What about other tracking technologies, like web beacons?" section of this Cookie Policy.

What about other tracking technologies, like web beacons?

Cookies are not the only way to recognise or track visitors to a website. We may use other, similar technologies from time to time, like web beacons (sometimes called "tracking pixels" or "clear gifs"). These are tiny graphics files that contain a unique identifier that enable us to recognize when someone has visited our Sites or opened an e-mail that we have sent them. This allows us, for example, to monitor the traffic patterns of users from one page within our Sites to another, to deliver or communicate with cookies, to understand whether you have come to our Sites from an online advertisement displayed on a third-party website, to improve Site performance, and to measure the success of e-mail marketing campaigns. In many instances, these technologies are reliant on cookies to function properly, and so declining cookies will impair their functioning.

How can I control cookies?

You have the right to decide whether to accept or reject cookies. You can exercise your cookie preferences by clicking on the appropriate information and opt-out links provided in the cookie tables above.

You can set or amend your web browser controls to accept or refuse cookies. If you choose to reject cookies, you may still use our Sites though your access to some functionality and areas of our Sites may be restricted. As the means by which you can refuse cookies through your web browser controls vary from browser-to-browser, you should visit your browser's help menu for more information.

How often will you update this Cookie Policy?

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to the cookies we use or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons. Please visit this Cookie Policy regularly to stay informed about our use of cookies and related technologies.

The date at the bottom of this Cookie Policy indicates when it was last updated.

Where can I get further information?

If you have any questions about our use of cookies or other technologies, please email us at privacy@alarm.com.
